This program will provide an overview of the Creole and black culture of Louisiana and follows the legal career of A.P. Tureaud Sr., an attorney who was responsible for desegregating schools, universities, parks, transportation, public fountains, and opened negotiations for teachers. A.P. Jr., will also be talking about his own experiences with being the first Black undergrad at LSU and activism. A.P. will be joined by Rachel L. Emmanuel, Ph.D., an award-winning public relations professional, documentarian, author, and lecturer.
A.P. Tureaud Jr is a New Orleans native and was the first Person of Color to attend a southern state university. He taught in public schools in New Orleans, Washington D.C. and White Plains; where he was the head of special education. He has also taught at Hunter College, Pace, and College of New Rochelle. He is currently a free-lance education consultant, artist, public speaker and author. He is active in the preservation of Creole documents and the spread of Creole history
Rachel L. Emanuel has served most of her 35-year professional career in Louisiana public higher education. Emanuel’s full-length documentaries: “Journey for Justice: the A. P. Tureaud Story,” and “Taking a Seat for Justice: The 1960 Baton Rouge Sit-Ins,” have been recognized in local, state, and national competitions. Currently Emanuel serves on the Board of Directors for the Supreme Court of Louisiana Historical Society and for the A. P. Tureaud Legacy Committee. She is a charter member, newsletter founding editor, former three-time president, former LSU Legends Forum and Chapter Reunion chair, and Scholarship Committee member of the A. P. Tureaud, Sr.,

Join Dr. Somesh Kaushik for this monthly series discussing topics in Ayurvedic medicine.
This first of twelve monthly sessions will focus on the immune system and how to maintain a balance.
Ayurveda believes a balance of body, mind, and spirit will naturally result in a strong immune system that combats pathogens. Being out of balance results in a weakened immune system allowing illness to develop. Balancing our microbiome – the bacteria, viruses, and fungi that exist in our bodies – is critical to our health. And, nourishing not only our body but also our mind and spirit is key to the health of our microbiome.

Lenapehoking, the Lenape homeland, spans from Western Connecticut to Eastern Pennsylvania, and the Hudson Valley to Delaware, with Manhattan at its center.
The Lenape Center has the mission of continuing Lenapehoking through community, culture, and the arts. They push back against erasure and seed the ground with Lenape consciousness for the next generations.
