The skeletal system is made up of the bones (the skeleton), muscles, cartilage, tendons, ligaments, joints, and other connective tissue that supports and binds tissues and organs together. Its primary functions include supporting the body, allowing motion, and protecting vital organs. It also is involved in the production of blood cells, storage of minerals, and endocrine regulation.
While the adult human skeletal system includes 206 bones, the infantile skeletal system has many more, since not all of the bones have fused together yet. The mineral calcium helps your muscles, nerves, and cells work normally. If you do not get enough calcium in your diet, or if your body does not absorb enough calcium, your bones can get weak or will not grow properly. Your skeleton (bones) are a living organ. Teeth are not bones but are still part of the human skeletal system
Skeletal diseases include osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and osteoporosis. Primary symptoms of skeletal disease, which may overlap with muscle and tissue conditions, include pain, stiffness, swelling, limited range of motion, weakness, fatigue, and decreased physical function.
Ayurveda assists our foundation – the skeletal system – by addressing its components as a whole while analyzing and treating individual symptoms and issues.

The muscular system aids in movement, blood flow, and other bodily functions. The muscular system is made of three different types of muscles. (1) Skeletal muscles that are connected to bone and aid involuntary movement. (2) Smooth muscles that are found inside organs and help to move substances through organs. (3) Cardiac muscles that are found in the heart and help pump blood.
Muscle disorders include a large group of conditions that fall under the umbrella terms of muscular dystrophy (a genetic disorder), neuromuscular conditions, and neuromuscular disorders. These conditions can affect skeletal muscles (and may overlap with skeletal issues), organs such as the heart and lungs (and may overlap with cardiovascular or respiratory issues), as well as muscles in the arms and legs. These disorders may cause weakness, loss of motor function (cerebral palsy), or paralysis even in the presence of an intact nervous system. Other conditions include myasthenia gravis, ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), rhabdomyolysis, mitochondrial myopathies, fibromyalgia, gout, lupus, bursitis tendonitis, myositis, dermatomyositis, and polymyositis (inflammation and progressive weakening of the skeletal muscles), rotator cuff injury, myofascial pain, muscle cramps, and sprains or strains.
Ayurveda identifies the particular dosha imbalance and corrects it with treatment and remedies.
