Serve Your Community – Become a Trustee of the Putnam Valley Free Library
The Putnam Valley Free Library is inviting community members to consider serving in a leadership role as a Trustee on our Board of Trustees.
Trustees guide the Library’s mission, policies, and long-term direction, ensuring it continues to thrive as a cornerstone of civic, educational, and cultural life in Putnam Valley.
📌 What Trustees Do
– Shape the future direction of the Library
– Approve and oversee the annual budget
– Hire, evaluate, and support the Library Director
– Advocate for the Library and strengthen community connections
– Ensure compliance with state law and Library bylaws
Trustees serve five-year terms and meet monthly, with additional committee service and engagement expected.
✅ Who Can Serve
– Are at least 18 years old
– Hold a valid PVFL Library card (issued at least 60 days before the Annual Meeting)
– Live in Putnam Valley or the Putnam Valley School District, or are a taxpayer in the Town of Putnam Valley
– Are not a Library employee or immediate family member of one
📝 How to Apply
– Complete a petition with at least ten (10) signatures of eligible Library Members
– Submit the petition along with your application form (including a personal statement and relevant experience)
– Forms are available at the Library or by request at trustees@putnamvalleylibrary.org
📅 Deadline
Completed petitions and applications must be delivered before the close of the Trustees meeting on Monday, October 20 at 7:00 PM.
